During the week of Oct. 24-30, Hawaii Island police arrested 20 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two of the drivers were younger than 21.

During the week of Oct. 24-30, Hawaii Island police arrested 20 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two of the drivers were younger than 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Puna, nine; Kona, six; South Hilo, four; and Ka‘u, one.

So far this year, there have been 909 DUI arrests compared to 886 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.6 percent.

There have been 1,166 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,281 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9 percent.

So far this year, there have been 25 official traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island, compared to 16 official fatalities during the same period last year.

This represents an increase of 56.3 percent for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
